1830’s Cottage Refurbishment

Our clients Amy and Rob bought their 1830’s cottage knowing they wanted to completely refurbish and extend it to create their dream family home whilst remaining sympathetic to the old cottage they fell in love with.

They wanted to retain the original features of the cottage whilst adding a large family kitchen living area, specifically with a large dining area ‘a great space for entertaining’. Amy and Rob have four children, so it was important to create spaces that were fit for purpose for their family.

We retained and updated the footprint of the existing cottage whilst designing a large two storey extension to the side, which mimics the architecture of the old cottage from the front elevation, with a modern twist to the rear.

With ingenious design around the first-floor landing area in the extension, we managed to align the first floors between the original cottage whilst increasing the ceiling heights in the extension. With considered positioning of a new staircase where head height wouldn’t be an issue, we were able to overcome these challenges.

We have designed a family home for living that captures ideas from both the client and designer. Seamlessly combining the old with the new by designing the additions to take on the appearance of the original cottage. Incorporating that all-important kitchen living area to the rear with a large dining area for their special family get togethers.

Our design manages to retain the character of the existing cottage whilst designing additions which reflect its beauty.

More than just an extension

We had clear ideas what we wanted but needed someone to offer expertise and alleviate the daunting task of the planning process by handling it all on our behalf.

We did meet with other architectural designers but ultimately chose Tom because he was like minded in his design tastes and could understand and visualize our concept. He gave us confidence he could help us implement our ideas with positive reassurance.

We particularly liked his positive manor, brilliant reputation and that no matter how many questions we asked he responded quickly, it felt like nothing was too much trouble. A great experience from a genuinely nice guy. We would happily recommend Toms services to anyone requiring architectural designs and expertise.

We found the service faultless, so just keep doing as you are.
